39% reduction in preventable crashes

Improved billing visibility and vendor cost control

Streamlined inspections and audits across facilities

Company Overview

Mondelēz International is one of the world’s largest snack food companies, with iconic brands like Oreo, Ritz, and Chips Ahoy in its portfolio. Operating in over 150 countries, Mondelēz manages a vast logistics and field workforce across the U.S., including nearly 2,000 employees and a large fleet operation. With a mandate to improve safety, streamline operations, and gain better insight into day-to-day activities, Mondelēz turned to Quickbase to unify its tools and deliver smarter, safer, and more efficient operations.

Challenge: Disconnected Systems and Costly Safety Incidents

Mondelēz International’s frontline operations were bogged down by paper forms, siloed systems, and reactive processes—especially when it came to fleet safety and training.

“We got the message loud and clear from our senior leaders that our network’s preventable truck crash performance needed improvement,” said Kojo Acquaah, Director of DSD Logistics at Mondelēz International. “We had work to do to uphold our mission of striving towards zero losses.”

The team needed a connected platform to streamline reporting, unify operations, and proactively address safety risks.

Solution: Centralized Operational Control with Quickbase

Mondelēz International implemented Quickbase across its operations to replace spreadsheets and paper with digital tools that work in real time.

“Our hourly teams migrate away from paper and they can just log in here and execute the business… our folks can fill out near miss reports directly in this tool, 5S audits, and complete other forms like general ridealongs,” explained Cameron Urevick, Manager of Digital Solutions at Mondelēz International.

Their fleet management system became one of the most impactful applications. “You can see a snapshot of all of your units, their status. You can add rentals and manage rental trucks and trailers with a tap and drag,” said Cameron. The platform also gave visibility into what vendors were billing, unlocking opportunities to reduce costs.

But the most transformative shift came with safety training. Mondelēz connected coachable event data from truck-mounted cameras to its learning system via Quickbase.

We use Quickbase to connect these two systems together by importing the coachable event data from DriveCam, letting Quickbase do its magic, and then auto-assigning the training within the learning platform to our drivers.

Results: Record-Breaking Safety & Operational Efficiency

Mondelēz’s Quickbase-powered safety system delivered fast, measurable ROI during the pilot:

  • 39% reduction in preventable truck accidents year-over-year
  • 10% reduction in vehicle accident repairs
  • 27% reduction in involuntary terminations due to improved training
  • Set new company record for preventable crashes per million miles, surpassing leadership’s goal
  • Streamlined inspections, audits, and temperature/humidity tracking across facilities
  • Improved billing visibility and vendor cost control

“To put it in perspective, we drove 24% of the miles and had only 12% of the accidents,” said Kojo. “And after closing the year with these results, we rolled the program out nationally.”

These tools are delivering phenomenal results for us. We want to continue extending these tools to our teams with tablets and access to Quickbase on smartphones.
