We understand how important it is to have real-time, centralized and share-able information to make critical business decisions and to run a successful department or business. This couldn't have rung more true for the Obama for America election organization where QuickBase was so important to supporting its decision-making processes and the myriad details critical to running a successful campaign.
On Wednesday, May 27, hear first hand from the Honarable Henry F. De Sio, who served as Deputy Assistant to President Barack Obama and was the 2008 Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Obama for America, as he shares lessons in leadership and management from this unique experience and how important QuickBase was to the election campaign. In De Sio's words, "QuickBase was on my team-of-teams."
Henry De Sio is a public speaker, campaign strategist, and organizational coach. He is also the author of, Campaign Inc.: How Leadership and Organization Propelled Barack Obama to the White House (University of Iowa Press, September 2014). De Sio was part of the senior management team that built that campaign from a startup in the earliest days and then scaled it into a complex, cutting-edge communications enterprise that earned a historic general election victory.
De Sio writes in his book, Campaign Inc., "It didn't take long for QuickBase to have its tentacles all over the organization. We used it to track everything from managing relationships to organizing our policy catalog to tracking hiring and spending. Growing our operations to the dimensions we were headed toward would have been impossible without this solution. The whole thing would have broken apart. But QuickBase made it possible for us to scale the principles that were fundamental to our operational success to date as we evolved the organization into the next iteration of its development."
Step inside campaign headquarters for an unprecedented glimpse of what it's like to work in the hothouse atmosphere of a national presidential campaign.
The former Obama manager says he is particularly excited to address the Intuit QuickBase User Conference in May. In his book, De Sio credits the introduction of QuickBase into the campaign’s operation at a critical moment as key to scaling the organization’s systems while maintaining the hallmark culture of discipline and innovation.
Whether you are launching a startup, lifting your organization to the next level, activating an advocacy campaign, or blazing your own career path, the thing between where you are and where you want to be is the campaign. These non-partisan lessons from the campaign trail Henry speaks about offer something for everyone.
De Sio is also the President of Way Forward Strategies, a practice he formed in 2001, which grew from his interest in helping everyday working Americans break into politics as entrepreneurs and CEOs of their own dynamic campaign organizations. After leaving White House service in July 2011, Henry relaunched Way Forward Strategies as a leadership, management, and communications consultancy. He currently promotes the principles of individual and organizational leadership through his writings and public speaking engagements.
Henry has been a television political analyst and lecturer offering leadership lessons from the campaign trail. He was featured on C-SPAN's 2012 Road to the White House series with a program entitled: Lessons from the 2008 Campaign.
De Sio earned his B.A. in Political Science from U.C. Santa Barbara and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Harvard's Kennedy School. Henry currently lives in Alexandria, Virginia, with his wife, Sine, and two young sons.
