How do we really feel about our position in Gartner’s April 2017 Magic Quadrant for Enterprise High-Productivity Application Platform as a Service?
In May, we announced that Quick Base was recognized in Gartner’s April 2017 Magic Quadrant for Enterprise High-Productivity Application Platform as a Service (hpaPaas). Last year, we were recognized in Gartner’s March 2016 Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Application Platform as a Service (aPaaS).
You may be wondering how we really feel about being positioned in the “Niche Players” quadrants of two related Gartner Magic Quadrant (MQ) reports, one of which covers a subset of the other. Doesn’t every vendor dream of appearing in the upper right “Leaders” quadrant?
Let me tell you why we are proud to appear in the “Niche Players” quadrant in these reports.
As a former tech industry analyst with 20+ years of experience writing reports about enterprise software & services vendors and markets, I know first-hand the importance of writing research reports for specific audiences. Readers rightfully expect to receive insights and recommendations that are highly relevant to their roles. The fact that these Gartner MQ reports are written for IT professionals is obvious from the technical jargon and requirements appearing in the market descriptions and vendor strengths and weaknesses sections. As a result, the evaluation criteria chosen for rating vendors reflect how well each vendor’s platform provides the set of services required by IT professionals.
While these capabilities may be highly relevant for professional developers looking to streamline traditional IT processes and systems, some of the capabilities for which vendors are judged by Gartner will be entirely irrelevant for business professionals looking to quickly build applications without any knowledge of traditional IT tools & processes. In the aPaaS and hpaPaaS markets, this means that while IT professionals may care a heck of lot about DevOps, 3GL extensions, test-driven development and containers for app deployment, business professionals care nothing about and want nothing to do with them. Any platform that requires business professionals to understand and make decisions about these IT bells and whistles just to build and use applications will be unappealing and unsuitable for their needs.
If these reports were written for business professionals, we would expect to be positioned in the “Leaders” quadrant. But they were not. Because these reports were written primarily for IT professionals, we are fine with our platform being recognized as serving the needs of business professionals more than IT. Our business-oriented platform enables our customers to put ideas into action to solve problems quickly and easily every day. IT, which trusts our platform to be used by business builders and users, benefits from reductions in IT backlog and development costs for their organizations.
Let’s take a look at what our customers are saying about Quick Base on Gartner’s Peer Insights site:
Senior Director Technical Operations at a mid-sized firm in the financial industry: “Don't be sold by other more expensive applications that appear to have bells and whistles Quick Base doesn't. Quick Base can do it all and often for much less.”
Head of Quality at a small firm in the manufacturing industry: “Quick Base is a truly great platform that allows the user to fully customize for their exact need. New features are constantly being developed and implemented to address all of our needs. Quick Base allows any of our users to access their data anywhere at anytime. It has fully customizable dashboard and forms for ease of use. No coding experience is needed for setup or development and new application can be fully developed in days or even hours.”
Installations Project Manager at a large firm in the services industry: “Quick Base has changed the way we operate and in doing so has made us much more efficient. We are able to better serve our clients. With Quick Base we are able to offer visibility to our clients that we could not before which is actually winning us business.”
If you are looking to empower business professionals to solve their own problems instead of having them wait for IT, we have a guide that will help you choose the right high-productivity app-building platform.
