With the introduction of Quick Base Actions two months ago, customers love the additional enhancements it enables to their workflow. Here’s one use case developed with a customer.
Imagine you create a Quick Base application to track your order processing. Customers call your team requesting quotes for different products. Currently, you have a many-to-many relationship set up between the Quotes table and Products table.
When your users convert a quote to order, they must manually re-select the products on the order form. They’ve complained for months, and now with Quick Base Actions you finally have an automated solution for them!
After reviewing the relationship diagram for your application, you’re ready to take these steps:
Step 1. On the Orders table, create a new [Report Link] field labeled 'Quote Products.'
Step 2. In the field settings, select from the dropdown 'Related Quote.'
Step 3. Click the 'Select Target…' button, pick your application name, and then the 'Line Items: Related Quote' value.
Step 4. Switching to the Quick Base Actions page, click the '+ New Action' button.
Step 5. For 'WHEN an order is' option, select the 'added' choice.
Step 6. For 'THEN perform an action' option, select the 'Edit related records' choice.
Step 7. For the Report Link choice, select your 'Quote Products.'
Step 8. In the last area, choose 'Copy the value from,' then 'Record ID#,' and finally 'Related Order.'
After saving your Action, as users convert a Quote to an Order, any Line Items (and by extension the products) linked to that Quote will automatically link to the new Order.
