New Study: Supply Chains Unprepared to Meet Future Disruption Due to Disconnected Teams, Systems, Processes

Quickbase report highlights the latest supply chain challenges, identifies an effective path forward to keep up with rapid changes

BOSTON – June 24, 2021 – Seventy-nine percent of supply chain professionals have to react to unanticipated changes on a regular basis. However, due to siloed or inaccessible information from vendors, outdated manual processes, and disconnected systems and teams across the organization, the vast majority feel unprepared to react to changes quickly. These and other findings were uncovered in a supply chain study from Quickbase, the leading no-code platform for operational agility.

In the last 18 months, supply chains have been more affected than ever by rapid changes and disruptions, largely as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The survey, “Building Resiliency Through Supply Chain Visibility,” identifies the most critical pain points behind these disruptions, and explores trends around organizations’ ability to react to change to identify a more efficient path forward to keep up with the rapid pace of change in today’s businesses.

Highlights from the survey include:

  • Only 10% of supply chain professionals feel extremely prepared for future disruptions.

  • 59% of respondents see the root cause of disruption as manual processes or disconnected systems.

  • Only 37% of respondents feel completely prepared to handle disruptions to supply chain changes.

  • 54% of respondents cited increasing visibility as a supply chain priority post-COVID-19, compared to 34% before the pandemic.

  • 94% of respondents plan to make changes to their supply chain in the wake of COVID-19 to mitigate future disruption.

  • 79% of those surveyed are responding to changes such as production quantity, quality defects and manufacturing work patterns within their teams or organizations weekly (43%) or daily (36%).
