Every Quickbase builder eventually faces the same tension: the app needs to change, but the work cannot stop while it does. A field rename, pipeline update, or new table may look small while building. In production, that change can affect a process people rely on every day. In the Quickbase Summer Drop webinar, Evan Martinez from Product Marketing and Rayna Stoycheva from Product Management recapped releases shipped since Empower. Each release does one of two things: lowers the risk of changing a live app or reduces the effort required to run it. Together, the updates make live apps safer to improve and easier to run.

Build and Test Changes Safely With Solution Environments

Solution environments give you development and test copies of a live system, so you build and validate changes without touching production data.

A solution groups the apps and pipelines behind one business process. Builders can then create development, test, and production environments for the entire system. They can copy a 50-record sample per table into lower environments, while enterprise customers can copy the full dataset.

Environment configuration controls what should differ between copies. Names, icons, colors, and connections can change by environment, so a development pipeline can point to a Salesforce sandbox instead of triggering a live workflow.

Deployments move toward production through a defined path. A review screen shows the full change set before deployment, including new tables, fields, renamed elements, and role permissions. Versioning lets admins save a schema snapshot before production release and restore it if needed. The activity log records who deployed each change and where it moved.

Rayna put the rule plainly: "Make changes in dev and deploy them to production, not the other way around."

Production stays locked down, and schema-change permissions stay in development, to help prevent conflicts between environments. Quickbase offers solution environments on Business and Enterprise plans. Enterprise adds full-dataset copies and solution APIs for one-to-many deployments.

Edit Records Faster With Grid Reports

Grid reports have reached general availability and bring spreadsheet-like editing into Quickbase.

Users can double-click a cell to edit it in place. A blue marker identifies unsaved changes, and the save button commits the batch. Each column has its own filter. Users can combine conditions, group records by a field, pin columns while scrolling, and fill changes across several rows.

Grid reports run about 10% faster, on average, than the fastest legacy reports. They can also remove pagination and support inline editing inside forms and dashboards.

New apps use grid reports by default. Builders can turn it on for existing apps through one app-properties setting. Grid reports do not yet support conditional read-only fields, but custom data rules can block a save when defined conditions are met.

Reduce Builder and Admin Maintenance

Several smaller releases cut the work required to troubleshoot pipelines, create apps, and manage access.

The Handle Errors block, now generally available, captures the error message and step details before passing that information into a later action. Builders can route those details to Outlook or Slack, so teams see a failure before it stalls downstream work. Run Preview shows the executed path, inputs, and outputs, which makes troubleshooting faster.

Other pipeline updates preserve references when steps move, carry field-name changes into pipelines, label copied steps, and include account information in exports and imports. Admins can also transition a departing user account to a service account, so its pipelines remain manageable.

Custom app-level access messages give admins more control over the denial screen. They can replace the standard message with clear instructions and hide the request-access button when another approval process should take over.

AI Spreadsheet Import is also now generally available on all Quickbase plans. It gives builders a faster starting point for turning complex, multi-tab spreadsheets into apps. Quickbase also refreshed builder and admin pages without moving the settings people already know.

Consolidate and Automate With Intelligence and Extensions

Quickbase Intelligence and Quickbase Extensions bring more work into the apps teams already use.

The Intelligence Package includes the AI Control Center, App Intelligence, AI agent, AI Actions, and Data Analyzer. Builders can use App Intelligence to understand an inherited app, AI Actions to draft pipeline workflows through chat, and Data Analyzer to surface patterns in operational data. Data Analyzer can identify trends, such as repeated delays, across one manager's work orders without requiring a data scientist to examine the dataset.

Quickbase Extensions consolidates document generation, messaging, e-signatures, and mapping inside Quickbase. The nine-extension bundle includes Exact Forms Plus, XL Docs, Courier, QB Maps, Text My Quickbase, JuicedSign, PDF Stamper, Package Builder, and PDF Merger.

Teams can create documents, send email and SMS messages, collect signatures, map records, and assemble PDF packages without moving work across a disconnected stack. Quickbase offers Intelligence and Extensions as add-ons across its plan levels.

Start with the update that solves the clearest problem in your workflow:

• Turn on grid reports for one high-volume report and set its default layout first.
• Create solution environments for a business-critical app, then move one change through development, test, review, and production.
• Add the Handle Errors block to pipelines that move critical data or keep customer-facing work running.
• Request an Extensions or Intelligence Package trial with your account admin's approval, or ask your customer success manager about solution APIs.

These releases make it easier to keep improving operational apps over time. Builders can test changes away from production, review them before deployment, catch automation failures earlier, and keep more work inside Quickbase. That discipline lets teams improve critical systems without making users absorb the risk of every change. The app keeps evolving while the work keeps moving.
