EMPOWER 2016 Recap - The United Front for Business TransformationWow! What an amazing week in Nashville for QuickBase customers, partners and staff! Our 2nd annual user conference, EMPOWER 2016, was a great success, highlighted by an engaged community of 600 citizen developers sharing ideas, best practices and plans for the future.

The training team spent the day providing instruction and hands-on learning to over 100 eager QuickBase users. Fundamentals Training sold out, but we are excited to announce that there are many more opportunities for getting up to speed on QuickBase and maximizing your investment! At EMPOWER 2016 we officially launched the QuickBase Training program, which will be hosting five regional sessions throughout the summer and can provide onsite training at your office. EMPOWER app a thon

1st QuickBase App-a-thon

Twenty teams made up of over 65 customers and partners competed in three different tracks to solve for:

  • Customer Use Case - Onboarding & training management solution for Paradise Energy Solutions
  • Non-Profit Use Case - Revenue recognition across multiple systems for Devereux Center for Resilient Children
  • Developer Use Case- Resource allocation and capacity planning solution

After six hours of working in small teams and breaking down tough problems they had not seen before, the QuickBase app-building dynamos presented their solutions to a panel of judges and were scored on criteria such as meeting the use case needs; polish and appeal; and originality.

The solutions that scored the highest and the winners of each of our categories:

  • Customer Use Case Winner: Team Sodexo
  • Non-Profit Use Case Winner: Team Qbees
  • Developer Use Case Winner: Team Trinity

We were happy to award $3,000 to each winning team, and even more delighted when Team Sodexo and Team Trinity both elected to donate their winnings to charity. Some of the created apps are already available on the App Exchange, and more will be coming soon. Check them out by searching “EMPOWER 2016.”

Thank you to all of our participants, coaches and judges. We can’t wait for an even bigger and better App-a-thon next year!

Wednesday began with a Keynote Presentation from Geoffrey Moore, technology market theorist and author of “Crossing the Chasm” and the recently published “Zone to Win.” See Moore’s Keynote here.

During the day, attendees visited the exhibit hall, had one-on-one appointments at the QuickBase Tech bar, and attended sessions. Almost 50 sessions were presented from Wednesday through Friday.

Wednesday afternoon closed with a Keynote Presentation from QuickBase CEO Allison Mnookin. Allison highlighted the exciting momentum of the citizen developer movement, and discussed key trends shaping low-code, rapid application development. She was joined onstage for a fireside chat by Mark Driver of Gartner, to bring an analyst’s perspective to the role of citizen development in the digital workplace. See Allison’s Keynote here.

Allison concluded her presentation by unveiling QuickBase Cares, our new corporate responsibility program, and the EMPOWER 2016 fundraising campaign in support of the American Transplant Foundation. We have almost reached our fundraising goal, which will provide $15,000 to support transplant recipients and living donors!

The Product Keynote on Thursday morning laid out QuickBase’s commitment to being the easiest, IT-trusted citizen development platform empowering app builders to drive productivity and insights from their unique and evolving processes. There was a recap of product improvements that have been implemented over the past year, and exciting previews of functionality and user design that is in the works. One exciting announcement is the QuickBase/Workato connector, which automates workflows within QuickBase and between 150 other cloud apps and on-premise systems. Our Customer Awards ceremony followed the Product Keynote. Read all about the winners here.

Wildhorse Saloon Nashville EMPOWER2016

Thursday night concluded with a party at the Wildhorse Saloon in downtown Nashville, complete with cowboy hats and line dancing instruction. The dance floor was packed throughout the night and the QuickBase community had a grand ol’ time.

We were sad to see the conference end, but excited for our customers to take their learnings back to the office and implement new ideas!
