Volvo took 2 cars off of the production line for use in prototyping what eventually became the 1800ES Sportswagon.  Both original cars taken off of the line were white. There were two main designs in competition. The first design was the brain child of Volvo chief body designer, Jan Wilsgaard. He was not involved in the original P1800 project, being tied up in the design of the 122. This first design was dubbed the "Beachcar", and wasn't much different than the eventual production 1800ES.  Chassis number 26142 was sent to Coggiola in Italy for conversion into Jan Wilsgard's "Beachcar".

Thanks to Thilo Moerke, who ran across this website and sent
the following:

"One of them was for sale here in Germany (Duesseldorf) late last year for 15.000$ OBO. When I became aware of the existence I took my own P1800 out of the garage and went for a look. The car is all original, finished in gold metallic and the condition is quite good apart from all the bodywork that was  changed by Coggiola in Italy. As the vehicle was built for show purposes only nobody cared about rust prevention, there is alot of corrosion around the tailgate and on the rearend in general.  The vehicle was licensed and ready to go. The original vehicle from Volvo apparently was painted white, as Coggiola only resprayed the outer surfaces (engine compartment etc. still white). Some of the differences between this prototype called "Beachcar" and the later 1800ES are:
-extra opening quarter window at D-pillar
-stock P1800S instrumentpanel, but covered with wooden finish vs. original aluminum
-seats, trim and headlining covered with brown fabric
-four spoke leather sport steering wheel
-"Beachcar" decal at RHS
-plywood panel on top of spare wheel

This car is mentioned in several books on Volvo like Lindh's
Volvo book or The complete Guide to Volvo P1800 Series I    think the car was probably sold to Germany's largest spare shop for old Volvos in Hamburg, the owner told me they want to restore the vehicle (good news)."

When you bring additional fields into a conversion, Quickbase often finds inconsistencies. For example, say you're converting your Companies column into its own table. One company, Acme Corporation, has offices in New York, Dallas and Portland. So, when you add the City column to the conversion, Quickbase finds three different locations for Acme. A single value in the column you're converting can only match one value in any additional field. Quickbase needs you to clean up the extra cities before it can create your new table. To do so, you have one of two choices:

  • If you want to create three separate Acme records (Acme-New York, Acme-Dallas and Acme-Portland) click the Conform link at the top of the column.
  • If the dissimilar entries are mistakes (say Acme only has one office in New York and the other locations are data-entry errors) go back into your table and correct the inconsistencies—in this case, changing all locations to New York. Then try the conversion again.
