How Can I Find Information in My Application?

When your QuickBase application contains more than a handful of records, you need some help locating specific items that you want to view. QuickBase offers a global app search feature that you can use to search your entire application or a specific table for a word or phrase. If a word or phrase isn't enough, and you want to specify more detailed parameters for a search, check out the advanced search option.

To quickly search the contents of your application:
  1. Click Search on the Global bar.

  2. Click the Search <app name> tab.

  3. Decide whether to perform an exact search. Exact searches look for <Some field> is equal to My_search_term. This type of search is generally faster than the default type of search (<Some field> contains My_search_term).

To perform an exact search, select Match search term exactly on the search dropdown.

  4. Enter the information that you want to search for, then click Search.

Note: If you don't see this button, your app admin has removed access to it for users in your role.

QuickBase returns results in the column and row order format specified by the default report settings for each table. If you don't like the layout, you can change the reporting defaults for the table.

The sidebar on the left side of the page shows the number of search results returned from each table (see image). As you scroll through the results, more tables are searched and more results are loaded.

Tables in the sidebar can display one of three results:

To search the data in a specific table:
  1. Open a table from the Table bar, then click Search on the Global bar.

Note: If you don't see this button, your app admin has removed access to it for users in your role.

  2. Enter the information that you want to search for, then click Search. QuickBase shows you a report with set of records containing the term you entered. If you don't get the results you wanted, use the icon on the Page bar to modify the report. You can also save the report for future use.
