Provide Field Help

As a responsible developer, you always have your users in mind when you're designing your QuickBase application. In spite of the fact that you've made your data-entry forms easy to use, an end user may still have a question about how to fill out certain fields. You can easily provide guidance by attaching "Help" to any field. When you do so, QuickBase displays a question mark icon next to the field. When a user passes her mouse over the question mark, a yellow tool tip appears, containing whatever text you want.

Using HTML in field help

You can use HTML tags to format the text that appears in your tooltip. QuickBase allows you to use only a specific set of HTML tags in your field help. See what tags are allowed in QuickBase.

To add "help" to a field:

  1. In the table bar on any application page, click the table containing the field. Within the menu that appears, select Customize --tablename-- table > Fields.

  2. Open the properties for the field.

Locate the field for which you want to provide guidance and click its name.

  3. In the Help box, type whatever text should appear to your application's users when they hover over the help icon.

  4. Click Save.

Note: Field-level help appears on Add. Edit, and Display forms.
