QuickBase user fields draw directly from the list of individuals with whom you've shared your application. When you import data into a table that contains a user field, QuickBase may need to insert temporary "placeholder" values to fill the user field. To learn why, read about placeholders. If you see values in a user field that are surrounded by double-quotation marks, you need to convert these temporary values to real users who access your application.
In the menu bar on any application page, select Users > Manage Users.
Click the I Want To... button and select Replace Placeholders.
Note: If you don't see this choice, QuickBase has not inserted placeholders in your application.
The Replace Placeholders page displays, listing all the placeholder values that QuickBase inserted.
Next to a placeholder value you want to convert, click Pick New User.
The User Picker opens in a new window. Select the QuickBase user that should replace the placeholder.
If you make an incorrect selection, clear it by clicking Reset.
When you're done matching all your real users to placeholder values, click Replace on the bottom right of the page to implement the changes.
If placeholder values match your users' screen names, you can let QuickBase try to marry users to placeholders for you. To do so, click Guess Replacements on the bottom left of the page. QuickBase finds matches for only those placeholder user names that exactly match a QuickBase screen name.
Note: If the value you imported into the user field contains an email address that belongs to one of your users, QuickBase does NOT insert a placeholder. Instead, the program automatically assigns that record to the real user possessing that address.
