User Access and Your Application

This chapter covers the APIs application-level features that govern access. The calls that provide these features can be grouped as follows:

Secure communications: ticket and application token

Access to Intuit QuickBase (login)

Managing user access to applications by moving users in and out of roles

Enabling easy application access for users through provisioning and invitation

Changing record ownership

Youll notice one thing missing in this list: there are currently no calls to create or set up roles. Youll need to do all that work using the UI provided by Intuit QuickBase. The API calls only let you move users around in roles that are already created. There are default roles you could use (administrator, participant, viewer), but its likely that many applications will need their own role structure.

Something else that is missing...

The list is also missing any abaility to create and manage groups.   For example, I have several apps and want to manage roles via groups.  This is possible by creating a group in the UI and assigning the group to a role which has been defined with the proper access.   This is done across all apps, but using same groups.   Having the ability to manage my group lists outside fo the UI would allow me to sync a set of groups against another data source, w/o needing to go into the UI.  I get a feed of data, parse it up and assign users to groups groups based on it.

Anyway, any chance this will be added at some point?

Hi Dave --

I wanted to let you know that our primary forum for customer feedback and ideas for improving QuickBase is now UserVoice. Go to and see what QuickBase users are saying -- your idea may already be in the system. If not, we encourage you to enter it there, and vote on ideas to help them become part of QuickBase in the future.

Thanks for writing in! We're always glad to hear from our users.
